You can find more info about Vestigial Tales here.

Just fill out the form below if you’re interested and I’ll email you a copy asap.

That’s it.

Vestigial Tales: Short stories in 140-odd characters

Huzzah! Vestigial Tales, my ebook of flash fiction, is here at last!

VTCover

Published by Legends, the fiction imprint of Ichabod Press, Tales is already up on Amazon (link) and will be appearing elsewhere shortly. Plus, there’s a paperback version in the works too.

A massive thank you to everyone who worked with me on this, especially Maria Astakhova, who produced several beautiful illustrations for the book.

Here’s the blurb from the publisher’s website:

“From the crew of a spaceship burning up upon re-entry to one woman’s sad musings over a lonely dead fish, quick-fire pick-up lines that don’t quite have the desired effect or crazed, murderous rants by an accountant pushed the edge, Vestigial Tales presents the reader with unforgettable characters and all manner of strange and fantastical worlds explored through 106 short stories each just 140 characters in length.

Inspired by the writings on his Twitter account, Liam Aidan’s distilled stories cast shadows of much larger worlds that don’t actually exist, the worlds the tales elude to but never fully describe, igniting the reader’s imagination in the process. From wry observational commentary to outright absurdity, Aidan switches between genres and styles ensuring Vestigial Tales contains something to delight everyone.

With original illustrations by Maria Astakhova, and a first line index of all the stories included at the back, Vestigial Tales is a must-have for all fans of flash and micro fiction.”

I’ll post more links as they become available, along with more assorted ramblings, of course.

Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter, unless “forgetting” is your way of politely declining. In which case, carry on.

Happy 4th July: An update on the fly

Happy Independence Day, USA!

Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

This is my first one in America, so I’m looking forward to a load of kitsch Americana and fireworks. I mean, any excuse for fireworks, right?

Also, a little update on VT: I am very pleased to announce that my highly talented illustrator, Maria Astakhova has now finished all the illustrations for the book! This means that after a few final tweaks to the manuscript, I will be ready to send the whole thing off to the publisher and hopefully we’ll see the finished product soon!

In the meantime, I’ll leave you with a little bit of timely inspiration:

Found an illustrator

Huzzah! Following my last post in which I was desperately looking for an illustrator, I am incredibly pleased to announce that I have now found one.

*Drumroll, please*

Ladies, gentlemen, and those free from such limited binary concepts, please say a big hello to the incredibly talented Maria Astakhova.

Maria will be providing illustrations for a dozen of the 106 stories (not 120 as I previously mistakenly stated) that will appear in my flash fiction collection Vestigial Tales when it is published later this year. Kind, highly experienced and really rather good, you can see more of Maria’s work on her blog duckandwhite.

I am so excited to have Maria on board and I cannot wait to see her finished work next to the stories. Give her blog a follow and check back here for more updates soon.

Looking for an illustrator…

My first blog post and already I am asking you for something. Namely, I am looking for an illustrator (or illustrators) to produce a dozen or so drawings for my upcoming collection of flash fiction, Vestigial Tales.

VTCover4

The collection is going to be published by Ichabod Press and will exist initially as an ebook before a print version is made available later this year or early 2015. It will contain about 120 stories each no more than 140 characters long. In order to make the book a little more visually interesting, I’d like to commission illustrations to accompany about twelve of these micro shorts, the catch is that I don’t have very much money with which to do so (quelle surprise).

Are you an illustrator? Do you know an illustrator? Do you think, given the promise of say $50/£50, you might like to try your hand at becoming an illustrator? These are the questions I put to you, and anyone else who will listen. If you think you know someone who might be interested in helping me out then please share this post with them and direct them to my Twitter @Liam_Aidan for more examples of my flash fiction shorts.

I am happy to discuss what I am looking for and share the stories in question with anyone who enquires via either the contact form below or through Twitter.

So, who wants to draw me some pictures?
